Matt WhiteheadEnergy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)

ESOS is a UK Government backed energy scheme that is now compulsory for qualifying organisations in the UK.

The idea is to raise the profile of energy consumption to identify and encourage greater investment in energy and carbon saving projects.

Organisations have four-yearly compliance cycles with the first compliance deadline date being 5th December 2015.

An ESOS assessment requires organisations to do three things:

1. Measure total energy consumption.

–  Covering energy used in buildings, transport and industrial processes.

2. Conduct energy audits to identify cost-effective energy efficiency recommendations.

–  Companies must ensure that at least 90% of their total energy consumption is subject to an ESOS compliant energy audit.

3. Report compliance to the Environment Agency.

–  By 5th December 2015 all qualifying organisations must notify the Environment Agency (as the scheme administrator) of compliance with the scheme.

LCMB Lead Assessors are certified by the highest professional governing bodies: the Energy Institute (EI) and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).
