Building Performance Insights

John O'Brien - LCMB
Hello and welcome to November’s Building Performance Insights.

Workplace wellbeing, performance and productivity is now a hot topic, but estates professionals can find it tricky to present the business case for it. So this month we try to bring clarity to this challenge.

1. Our 60 second video explains how some organisations can offset all their building operating costs by improving workplace wellbeing, performance and productivity.

2. You can read the BCO summary of our workshop which explored the components of the business case for productive, high performing and healthier workplaces.

3. You’re invited to join our webinar at 11am on the 29th January: High Performing Buildings = High Performing People. Where Work in Mind and I present some quick and extremely low cost ways to improve your organisation’s working environment – and people’s wellbeing performance and productivity.

You’re also invited to join The 2020 Built Environment Impact Study. It’s a seven minute study that will benchmark your organisation and give you actionable insights.

We’ve launched a four-pager that explains how we provide the most integrated approach to getting the best performance and return from your estates. Please take a look, and take up our offer of a free workplace review.

We take a brief look at toxic pollution in New Delhi and how buildings can protect us from outdoor pollution.

And finally, we welcome Joe Wright, LCMB’s newest Senior Consultant.

Do get in touch to discuss how we can help you improve the performance and productivity of your people, buildings and estates.

Have a great November.

How a High Performing and Healthy Workplace can cover 100% of your real estate operating costs

Watch our 60 second video on how to improve your people’s wellbeing, performance and productivity and cover 100% of your real estate operating costs.

The Business Case for Productive, High Performing and Healthier Workplaces

There’s been lots of coverage by the BCO and others about the performance and cost benefits of healthy, higher performing workplaces. The benefits are easy to understand, but many organisations don’t actually go on to improve the workplace environment to promote wellbeing, performance and productivity.

This is often because the business case can be difficult to define hence approval isn’t forthcoming. We’re here to help. The BCO and LCMB ran a workshop to explore the business case, and the conclusions were:

1) We should create better awareness, at all levels, of how the indoor environment affects health, wellbeing and productivity.

2) Human resources (HR) and facilities management (FM) teams must work together on this issue.

3) A working cultural shift is necessary so that staff can feel they can visibly take care of their wellbeing.

4) Although health, wellbeing and productivity is difficult to define and measure, doing so will make all the difference.

You’re invited! The 2020 Built Environment Impact Study

Your organisation’s staff productivity, costs, profits, risks, image and carbon emissions depend in part to how well your estates perform.

We want to get a deeper understanding of what works well and what doesn’t for organisations across the UK.

LCMB’s 2020 Built Environment Impact Study. What is it?
Our research programme allows you to benchmark your estates with those of your peers. We aim to identify what sets the highest performers apart and then allow everyone to learn best practise, and how to avoid the pitfalls.

To participate, all you need to do is complete a seven minute questionnaire. We’ll do the rest.

What’s in it for you?
We’ll analyse responses, generate insights, and develop a comprehensive actionable report, available in 2020 and publish to participants in advance of general release.

Your responses will remain anonymous, but we’ll send you a benchmark assessment that compares your organisation’s performance with other participants.

Why do we do it?
We want to equip everyone with the means to improve estates and build a business case for investment if needed, by

  • Identifying the most powerful practices used by leaders to make estates perform optimally.
  • Providing practical recommendations on how to implement the powerful practices identified.
  • Pinpointing the extra value and savings that leaders achieve.

I really hope you can take seven minutes to participate and receive valuable feedback.

Free workplace review

We’ve made stellar progress in the last 12-18 months to refine our understanding of what clients want, the scale of value we deliver, and the actionable insights we bring to the table.

That’s why we talk a lot about workplace wellbeing, performance and productivity; employee experience, carbon emissions and of course cost reduction.

But we’ve not provided one overview of what we do, the value we bring and how the elements of what we do fit together. So we’re proud to share our 4 pager that sets out what we do, our unconditional guarantee, and our offer of free advice.

And if you read our brochure and get in touch this month, we can give you a free workplace review.

In the news. The Toxic Smog that is Choking New Delhi

New Delhis’ toxic smog has forced residents to stay indoors, closed factories and schools, diverted flights and halted building works.

Sadly, staying indoors isn’t a solution for those that don’t have air purifiers, as pollution is as bad inside as outside.

Demand for air purifiers in Delhi and the surrounding areas has gone through the roof.

Vijay Wanchoo, the General Manager at The Imperial, one of Delhi’s oldest five-star hotels, provides some insight into how people choose where to go based on air quality: “The focus is on the fact that indoor air is a major deciding factor for guests . . . and is becoming a selling point today.”

To retain customers, Mr Wanchoo said the hotel is in the process of installing air filtration systems and special air cleaners that are designed to reduce particularly dangerous PM 2.5 particles, which penetrate deep into the lungs and bloodstream.

LCMB's accelerated ROI audit

Too many organisations spend large sums of money on the wrong initiatives that generate a poor return or even a loss.

This is why we created the LCMB accelerated ROI audit. It cuts through the noise and quickly, clearly identifies the untapped performance improvement areas within your buildings.

The audit uncovers operational inefficiencies such as under-utilised space and facilities, as well as cost and energy reduction opportunities, and then provides a clear plan for realising potential.

By implementing the plan, we guarantee the audit pays for itself within 6 months and thereafter generates a positive return.

Contact John O’Brien on 01295 722823  [email protected] to discuss how the LCMB accelerated ROI audit can improve your organisation performance and return on investment.
