The Business Case for Productive, High Performing and Healthier Workplaces
There’s been lots of coverage by the BCO and others about the performance and cost benefits of healthy, higher performing workplaces. The benefits are easy to understand, but many organisations don’t actually go on to improve the workplace environment to promote wellbeing, performance and productivity.
This is often because the business case can be difficult to define hence approval isn’t forthcoming. We’re here to help. The BCO and LCMB ran a workshop to explore the business case, and the conclusions were:
1) We should create better awareness, at all levels, of how the indoor environment affects health, wellbeing and productivity.
2) Human resources (HR) and facilities management (FM) teams must work together on this issue.
3) A working cultural shift is necessary so that staff can feel they can visibly take care of their wellbeing.
4) Although health, wellbeing and productivity is difficult to define and measure, doing so will make all the difference.

In the news. The Toxic Smog that is Choking New Delhi
New Delhis’ toxic smog has forced residents to stay indoors, closed factories and schools, diverted flights and halted building works.
Sadly, staying indoors isn’t a solution for those that don’t have air purifiers, as pollution is as bad inside as outside.
Demand for air purifiers in Delhi and the surrounding areas has gone through the roof.
Vijay Wanchoo, the General Manager at The Imperial, one of Delhi’s oldest five-star hotels, provides some insight into how people choose where to go based on air quality: “The focus is on the fact that indoor air is a major deciding factor for guests . . . and is becoming a selling point today.”
To retain customers, Mr Wanchoo said the hotel is in the process of installing air filtration systems and special air cleaners that are designed to reduce particularly dangerous PM 2.5 particles, which penetrate deep into the lungs and bloodstream.
Joe has recently joined us as Senior Consultant and has immediately hit the ground running at our client Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
