Welcome to our April edition of Building Performance Insights, our monthly round up to help make your buildings work harder for your organisation and people.

This month, we launch our estates transformation guide for UK universities to have more productive, satisfied students and staff and enjoy optimal use of their estates.

Read how Birmingham Airport saved over £1m energy costs thanks to behaviour transformation, and how an innovative energy contract at King's College London is set for 14% cost savings and 1,500 t carbon savings (13% CO2 reduction).

You can read a summary of our workplace optimisation methodology to improve workplace productivity by 10%.

And finally, take an accelerated ROI audit to assess the most effective way to get maximum performance from your estates budget and capital. Get in touch: t: 01295 722823, m: 07711 032137, e:

Our ultimate guide to Improving Higher Education Performance

We’ve launched “our ultimate guide to improving higher education performance” - a step-by-step framework for universities to configure their estates in order to improve student and staff satisfaction and productivity, reduce energy consumption and cost, mitigate risk, and align themselves for future demands.

We wrote the guide because we failed to find a single guide specifically for UK university estates to meet the demands of students, staff and hit budget and energy targets. We think this guide is necessary for anyone who like us, wants UK higher education to retain its world-leading status.

Others agree. Richard Kent, Head of Campus Operations, King’s College London, says it's “An excellent guide – succinct, challenging and useful”

Our ambition is for every single UK university to benefit from this guide. We’ll share guide highlights throughout 2017 including a fantastic self-assessment questionnaire, but in the meantime, please help us by distributing this guide to all university professionals you may know. Birmingham Airport Energy Champions – Behaviour Change Programme

Birmingham Airport, one of the UK’s busiest airports, handles over 9 million passengers per year. They needed to quickly reduce one of their largest costs - energy consumption. They saved 66 MWh (£785k) in year 1, and generated a savings pipeline of 170 MWh thanks to a behaviour change programme. Read more...

King’s College London – Energy and Cost savings from PFI contracts

King’s College London is Europe's largest centre for the education of healthcare professionals. Its ground-breaking research and teaching facilities have complex estate service requirements. King’s is now on track to reduce 13% CO2, 1,500t carbon and 14% of cost thanks to an innovative energy performance contract. LCMB's accelerated ROI audit

Too many organisations spend large sums of money on the wrong initiatives that generate a poor return or even a loss.

This is why we created the LCMB accelerated ROI audit. It cuts through the noise and quickly, clearly identifies the untapped performance improvement areas within your buildings.

The audit uncovers operational inefficiencies such as under-utilised space and facilities, as well as cost and energy reduction opportunities, and then provides a clear plan for realising potential.

By implementing the plan, we guarantee the audit pays for itself within 6 months and thereafter generates a positive return.

Contact John O’Brien on t: 01295 722823, e: to discuss how the LCMB accelerated ROI audit can improve your return on investment.

LCMB Workplace Optimisation

Whole Life Performance Plus (WLP+) is an initiative to improve workplace productivity by 10% and reduce energy use by 30% by optimising ventilation, light, noise and other indoor environmental factors.

LCMB are proud to work with partners Argent, King’s College London, Emcor UK, British Council for Office, Constructing Excellence and Oxford Brookes University to develop an indoor environmental quality model to maximise worker productivity.
